Wherex Privacy Policy

Terms of Service · 中文 · Wherex home

Effective date: July 1, 2026
Last updated: July 1, 2026
Version: 1.0

Welcome to Wherex (Chinese name: 问处; hereinafter “the App” or “we”). This Privacy Policy explains how WLinger (website: undefined) collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the App.

Please read this policy carefully before using the App. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you acknowledge that you understand and agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the App and uninstall it.

1. Product positioning and core commitment

Wherex is a local-first personal inventory management app:

  • Item names, photos, categories, locations, notes, backup files, and similar data you enter are stored only on your device by default (SQLite database and the app’s private directories). We do not upload this content to our servers.
  • The App does not currently offer user account registration or cloud sync.

In this policy, “collection” mainly refers to device information, anonymous usage statistics, and diagnostic data processed to improve the product, display ads, and maintain stability—not your item content.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you provide (stored locally only)

Type Examples Uploaded?
Item and organization data Name, description, category, location, expiry No
Media Item photos (local app storage) No
Backup files ZIP exports you create No (you keep them)
App settings Theme, reminder thresholds, analytics toggle, etc. No (on device)

2.2 Anonymous usage statistics (optional; can be turned off)

To improve the product, when you enable Settings → Help improve Wherex, we may collect data through Firebase Analytics:

Type Examples Notes
Usage events Opening a screen, adding an item, exporting a backup No item names, search terms, or photo paths
Event parameters Whether a photo was added, whether expiry was set, item count ranges Aggregated metadata only
App information App version, operating system For version and platform breakdown

You may turn off this collection at any time under Settings → Privacy & improvement → Help improve Wherex. After you turn it off, we stop collecting new usage events via Firebase Analytics (existing anonymized aggregate data may be retained per Google’s policies; see below).

2.3 Diagnostics and crash information

To keep the App stable, we may collect through Firebase Crashlytics:

  • Crash stack traces, error types, app version, device model, and OS version
  • Does not include your item names, photos, or backup contents

Crash reporting is separate from the “Help improve Wherex” toggle. Turning off usage statistics does not disable crash reporting.

2.4 Advertising-related data

The App displays ads through Google AdMob (app open, banner, etc.). Ad services may collect:

  • Device advertising identifiers (e.g., Android Advertising ID, iOS IDFA—only if you authorize tracking)

  • IP address (for ad delivery and fraud prevention)

  • Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks, etc.)

  • Users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and similar regions may see the Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent flow.

  • iOS users may see the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt.

You can manage ad tracking and personalization through system settings or consent dialogs. Ad data processing is governed by Google’s policies. See undefined.

2.5 What we do not collect

  • Item names, full notes, or search keywords
  • Item photos or backup ZIP contents
  • Specific names of your categories or locations
  • Precise GPS location
  • Contacts, SMS, or call logs

3. How we use information

Purpose Legal basis / context
Core inventory features Providing the service; data processed on your device
Anonymous usage statistics and product improvement Your consent (withdrawable anytime)
Crash analysis and bug fixes Legitimate interest / service quality
Displaying ads and measuring ad performance Your consent (UMP/ATT, etc.) and Google’s terms

4. Third-party SDKs and services

The App integrates the following third-party services:

Service Provider Purpose Privacy information
Firebase Analytics Google Anonymous usage statistics undefined
Firebase Crashlytics Google Crash reporting Same as above
Google AdMob Google Advertising undefined
Google UMP Google Privacy consent (EEA, etc.) Same as above

Third parties may process data outside your country (e.g., the United States or the European Union). We aim to minimize data collection and disclose this processing in this policy.

5. Storage and security

  • Local data: Stored in the app sandbox on your device. Uninstalling the App removes the local database and photos unless you have backed them up elsewhere.
  • Transmitted data: Statistics and crash data are sent to Google over HTTPS.
  • Retention: Retention on Firebase/Google systems follows their product policies (Analytics events are often retained for about 2–14 months, configurable). We cannot delete anonymized remote statistics tied to a specific individual.

We use reasonable technical measures to protect data in transit but cannot guarantee absolute security. Please safeguard your device and backup files.

6. Your rights and choices

Depending on applicable law (including the Personal Information Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China where applicable), you may have the following rights:

Right How to exercise it
Know and decide Read this policy; use the in-app toggle for usage statistics
Opt out of anonymous statistics Settings → Help improve Wherex → Off
Manage ad tracking iOS: Settings → Privacy → Tracking; Android: reset advertising ID; UMP consent options
Access / delete local data Edit or delete items in the App; export data, then uninstall if desired
Complaints and inquiries Email us at the address below

We will respond within a reasonable period (within 15 business days where not otherwise required by law). We may not be able to delete specific remote records that are anonymized and not reasonably linkable to you; we will explain why when that applies.

7. Children

The App is intended for users aged 18 or older, or use under a guardian’s consent and supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a guardian and believe we have processed a child’s information without consent, please contact us to request deletion.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through in-app notice, website announcement, or similar means. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy. Please review periodically:
